Contaminant Media worked with Pure Grass Films and The Avenues Youth Centre to create a film course for the local young people. The course culminated in this collaborative film.  It was funded by the BIG National Lottery, Arts Council and Well London.

The film is serving to challenge and renew existing perceptions and relationships between the community and the police service. Contaminant Media is working to create another project with the young people.

As part of the Adobe Youth Voices scheme, Kate helped to teach a group of 13 and 14yr olds from Capital City Academy in West London how to approach making a documentary on a subject of their choice, and then held regular sessions to support them throughout this process with their teacher Miss Donald.

The short films that came from these sessions included the subjects: animal cruelty,  war, discipline in school, money and pollution.

The films were shown by the British Film Institute and Offscreen at the National Film Theatre on the 27th April 2009.

Amnesty International’s annual Secret Policeman’s Ball on Saturday saw comedians club together to prove that human rights abuses are no laughing matter. And this year some familiar names from London’s advertising and post production community got involved.

Sitting proudly among the stand-up sets from the likes of Eddie Izzard and Ed Byrne, two films from London’s advertising community sent home the meaning behind the show. Stink, Academy, Mother, Smoke & Mirrors, Rushes and Framestore pooled their talent to create the powerful spots.

The films took different elements of the Amnesty International message and brought them to the big screen. Stink directing duo DarkFibre, AKA Marc Hawker and Ishbel Whitaker, showed how a government’s use of torture leaves us all with blood on our hands. The spot features a hooded figure attached to electrical wire - similar to the now infamous Abu Ghraib torture victim photograph. The figure is slotted into everyday life, in the shape of shop dummies and children’s toys to illustrate how a government’s actions reflect on its citizens.  Read more

A new website One Hundred Months has been launched to start to actively address how time that is running out as we speed toward a point of no return.

It’s serious.

It means we need to step up our efforts.

We need to make every day count.

And as much as it is scary, it is also an active goal which means that it has never been more important to get political and force our leaders to make changes.

It is inspiring that there are already millions of people who are lowering their emissions and working with technologies that are converting their lives to more sustainable futures.

Our economy cannot continue to grow in the way it has and offer us a sustainable future, so some big questions need to be asked, and some massive changes need to be installed. If you need any encouragement to question the system then read this book….

It’s time to wake up.

Enough’s Enough recently partnered with Greenpeace to help target Unilever, the world’s biggest consumer of palm oil. Palm oil plantations are destroying Indonesia’s rainforests, massacring critically endangered Orang-utans and devastating the climate.

We focused on Unilever’s beautiful Dove brand, placing a full page advert in The Times.

Today Unilever have called for a moratorium - a complete halt - on rainforest destruction in Indonesia. Unilever’s CEO Patrick Cescau has promised that all of Unilever’s palm oil will be sustainable by 2015.

Even Prince Charles has been quick to react, saying, “This really is a groundbreaking development which could make the whole difference to the future of the rainforests”.
